Day 4 6/22/2022

The Docks

We stop right in front of the docks, letting Azazel put his armor on just in case. There are about thirty ships and space for more. We stand around to chat about what we should do next. We stop in front of the quartermaster's office. Felix goes to the surrounding ships, one of the ships that looks like they might need help tying it off. He talks to his staff, asking why it brought him here. It says fun, the best kind of fun. He asked, which way does the wind of fortune blow? The staff says east. Are your intentions good, Felix asks. The staff laughs and says it depends on who is asking. The staff says that Felix may agree but his other may not. But not his brother. The one most important to him. Not due east, just that general direction.

The rest of us head inside, where people are tidying up after the storm. One, an elf, looks up at us and asks what we need. Xander steps forward, saying he needs a boat. Gwyneira asks if they would know where the boats are headed, and the answer is no, we would need to talk to the crew of the ships. But logging for the night, we can look to the longhouse.

Felix stands next to a crewman, who is likely to not be a low level crew member. He says the captain and crew are lazy due to the easy waters and the ships are run down. Felix tries to convince him to go toward Aping, taking our group with them. Spithers is the man’s name and he seems that he would be willing to direct them that way. Felix asks to get on the ship just to look around and flicks him a silver piece.

The rest of the group can easily see where Felix is after we leave the office. Gwyneira asks Xander if he wishes to get his brother while Idham, Gwyneira, Azazel, and Hawthorn go get lodgings. He agrees. Xander calls out to Felix, telling him that we are headed to the longhouse. Felix says he’ll be there soon and we all head to the longhouse, all but Felix. It’s a large room, with each set of bunks holding four a piece. The longhouse is less than half full. Xander and Idham jump into bunks, Hawthorn pretends to be a tree near the front door, Gwyneira goes near the fire and lays down her bedroll to sleep on.

Felix goes to the aft part of the ship. He stares out at the sea, and apologizes to his lady, Wisp. He leaves and heads to the longhouse. Hawthorn says “I am tree” and waves at Felix. Felix high fives the tree who high fives him back and then as he walks past Xander and touches him with his wet metal hand. Idham kicks Xander’s bunk. Felix finds a bunk. We rest.

The next morning, Felix wakes up and yells at his brother, they bicker. Felix goes to where Gwyneira is, wanting to know why she slept on the floor. Azazel joins and Felix and Xander continue their sibling squabble. As we head outside, it’s warm and the salt water is in the air. We then see the guards, looking ship to ship. Idham calls out to one of them. He says we haven’t talked to him yet, and Felix said we did a couple hours ago. Felix and Xander bluff, while Gwyneira seduces him and Hawthorn dances to distract him. It works and he thinks he did talk to us. He hands us a stack of papers, ten, to say that he checked us out. The guard heads to the office, quite aroused, while we head toward the ship.

We arrived at the gangway of the ship. A guard tells us to halt, and Felix holds out the paper to say that we have been questioned. But he seems to be confused since we seem to match the description of the murderers. He checks our papers and asks which guard gave them to us. Felix says, sausage pants in the office. Gwyneira seduces this guard as well. He steps out of the way for us. He also heads toward the office. Felix looks for Spithers, and he does see him. He is being questioned. Felix tries to tell the guard that Spithers had been questioned already. The guard gets upset and wants to see our papers, so Gwyneira seduces him and Hawthorn intimidates him. The guard decides it is time to move on. They hand everyone on the ship their papers and leave. Spithers is confused why we had him leave and again, why we seem to match the description, so Hawthorn persuades him that we did not. Felix is trying to get Spithers to mutiny and leave the captain behind. He doesn’t seem interested. But if Felix can fill his hold of cargo going south, then he’ll leave without his captain.

We ask Azazel to hide his wings, so we don’t stand out as much. Gwyneira changes her hair to pink momentarily, Xander makes himself look smaller, and Gwyneira changes Idham’s hair color to an ashy white gray for a short period of time. We split up, looking for passenger ships. Azazel, Xander, Idham goes to the northern side of the dock, Gwyneira and Felix go south, and Hawthorn stays as a tree to keep watch. Xander transforms into a young Deva as Idham pretends to be old.

Gwyneira and Felix identify a few ships for good prospects, the first ship is not a passenger ship. They are heading south. They would stop in Aping. There are 8 crew members. They would be amenable to having help for passage. Including work, the original offer is 4 silver a person. It’s a pretty decent price. And we continue. It will leave by midday tomorrow.

The group of three, they find some that look promising, the first three all looking for cargo. The fourth is a passenger ship. Crew of 25 and fully crewed so they don’t have extra work. They leave by tomorrow morning at the latest. They are headed east, then north along the coast. Idham takes Azazel to the side to ask about the front line. They decide this isn’t a ship they want. The fifth ship is a smaller ship, a cargo ship, they are full and looking to tidy up and leave soon, the next 24 hours or so. They are starting off toward the islands, and head toward the other side of the country. They could take up to 10 passengers but would require 10 silver.

Felix and Gwyn head on. Two more cargo ships, and the next is a full gallon cargo ship, but from Felix’s understanding and Gwyn’s intuition, it is sleek. It’s only on layover here. They have room for passengers, tomorrow morning for sure. Assuming the crew all show up, they don’t need help but they have the potential to. They need 15 silver each, heading toward Aping hold directly, but there in four days. That’s pretty quick. The Gillswallow will take a week. We head back to meet with the tree.

Trio, next two ships are heading to the north, and then one toward Aping hold, leaving by nightfall and is a mid-sized frigate. Full complement crew though they can only see one person. They ask how many people as for the price, for 5, a total of 50 silver, expected to arrive in six days. The ship is called The Storm. The guy’s eyes glow red and they seem a bit suspicious. It also seems to ride slightly high in the water. They head back to the tree.

Everyone heads back to the tree. We discuss which ship to go to. We go back to the Storm, the fact that it’s leaving so soon being the main reason we want to use them. When Felix checks the ship using arcana, he gets a nosebleed. Felix asks the staff if this ship is its indication of fun, and it laughs. Gwyn asks if he’s gonna get us there safely and he says that’s the goal. While Felix is chatting with Azazel, Xander splashes him with water. The man we are chatting with about the ship says, “We’re always watching,” and Gwyn and Felix have the hairs on their neck raised, and the bark on Hawthorn’s neck raises. We chat and decide to go for it. We all wait until nightfall and return to the ship, The Storm. We arrive, heading up the gangway. A female Tiefling stands at the top of the gangway. Gwyneira gives her a gold piece to ensure the group gets there alive. We step onto the ship, and a few minutes later, the sun vanishes. As the sun fades, beings float up through the floorboards. The ghosts float around, reaching toward the ropes that untie themselves. The Tiefling goes up to the wheel, and she spins it, rotating the ship and moving away from the dock. It begins moving out towards the sea. We hear a little splash as, from the front right, a section of the ship falls away, the name falling away. Peering over the edge, we hear from up behind us, on the helm, saying “Welcome to the Raya.”
