Day 6 7/28/2022
Out in the Wild
We stare at Allerton, confused and uncertain. Caleigh throws a rock at his back, and his head rotates to look at her. He says we have forbidden knowledge and he wants to speak with us, but his body is broken and he’s struggling to speak well. He says he is not used to having a body so Rayvvin asks if he is Allerton. He asks who that is, and Abcde asks who he is. He says he would be referred to as a specter, ghost, etc., but he says it’s an Allip. He says Allerton is not gone, the Allip passed him when he took the body and Allerton will soon become an Allip himself. Caleigh asks what it wants from us. It says, to find the library and bring it back to the world. Its secret has been lost to most but still we should search until it is found and they can use its power to take over the lands to the south (Gainsworn). Without it, they shall never win. It doesn’t know more about the library than we already know. It seems to be struggling more now. It brings us a warning, that there are those who do not wish for the library to be found. We should be cautious as not everyone is as they seem. It warns us that the big man may be more friend than you think, and the little green may be more enemy than it seems. (Count Cristo is a goblin that runs the country) Any other warnings before we leave? The world is always dangerous. Make the key, you need the key.
We group back together again. It’s early afternoon. We talk to Artimious about the secret, and he finally says yes to taking the secret and his body begins to seize. Rayvvin gets rid of Caleigh and Artimious’ wounds and we head north and do stuff while we travel. It’s been a couple of days and we haven’t come across anything strange. We decide to try to team up with a caravan to protect them if something happens. 3 farmers and 2 merchants, is the size of the caravan. We will get money if we need to protect them. We are heading toward Manda. It’s been two days, and they plan to reach there in about a week. 2 elves, a goliath and his family, a catfolk, and a goblin make up the caravan. The elves are farmers, the goliath had his farm destroyed and they are moving (farm was destroyed by some soldiers), the catfolk and goblin (Kazel) are both merchants.
Abcde and Caleigh go to talk to the group. They are heading to Manza, not Manda. Abcde starts to try to discuss with the goliath to see if they want our assistance. They are resistant, but when they talk to the elves and Caleigh says we would only get paid if we are able to assist, they agree. One silver for every being we beat, Caleigh offers and they accept.
On day 3, we roll into a small town. The caravan stays the rest of the day. The caravan picked up six more wagons while we were stopped. Kazel is going to split off to go toward Manda, while the rest of the group will continue heading toward Manza. Caleigh speaks to Kazel. The goblin doesn’t want to speak badly of anything because he doesn’t want to head to the digging camps. Rayvvin is really the only one who knows what they are. Not everyone comes back from the digging camps. Everyone at 14 has to go to the camps or the army. Every year, in every city, a group of people gets drafted from cities to go be diggers and they have to stay. Caleigh asks him to let us travel with him to protect him on the way to Manda. He’ll pay us one silver per person. He heads to the inn to stay the night and will leave at dawn. He’s the only one with a covered wagon.
Caleigh decides to come tell us about what’s going on after the goblin goes into the inn, leaving his wagon outside. She tells us everything that he said. Abcde checks the wagon for arcana. The strength of the magical spell makes Abcde bleed from the nose and ears after checking it. It has strong magic, but uncertain about what kind. They can tell it’s not the wagon, but something from the inside (after three checks). One piece of the magic is concealment, one feels like teleportation but not quite and Abcde doesn’t know what the third one is. Caleigh sets up a tiny hut for us to sleep in. We all head to sleep. We wake up in the morning after an uneventful night. We find Kazel and we head to Manda.
The first day, no abnormalities. The second as well. It gets colder as we head north and we are heading into the mountains. Third day, the sun rises and we travel along. We round a corner and we see a little city ahead of us. It’s a quarter of the size of Quetares. It has a wall made of sticks and is inviting enough. As we get closer, we get near lunch but we continue forward. Early afternoon, and we come to what looks like graves, but they’re open. They’re the size of a grave but open with three bodies inside. Each does have a headstone. They are in early decomp, and the headstone says attempted: desertion from digging crew, punishment, death, and a date. We continue. These are every ten ft, along the main road.
Caleigh asks Kazel about it, and he says that they only happen at the larger digging operations. He gives the impression that he might know what they are looking for in the digging camps, though most don’t know. Caleigh distracts Kazel while Chodrak tries to sneak into the cart. Kazel tries to correct himself to Caleigh and is immediately defensive, not wanting us to know that he knows. Chodrak jumps into the cart, getting in nicely. Caleigh asks what he thinks they’re looking for, he stutters. He says he doesn’t know what they’re digging for, but she can tell that he does know. We’re about an hour outside of Manda. Caleigh pushes to get him to talk to her, but scares him as well. He capitulates. He reigns in his ox, stopping the cart. He says he may know a little more than he said. Chodrak dives into the back, and he stands up and waits, not hearing anything once he gets inside. Then he opens his eyes…
(A quick note here, I've added these synopsis for people to go back and remind themselves about what happened or if people come in later and don't want to start at the beginning, they can read these really fast, but they are not a replacement for watching our videos as they are not full descriptions.
